Guidelines on ICTMD Ambassadors

Eligibility

An ICTMD Ambassador is envisioned as an individual with goodwill, knowledge, and experience that can benefit the Council's mission and activities as defined by Statutes 2 and 3 and to further invigorate ICTMD’s functioning as an international organization.

A suitable candidate should have a history of collaboration with the Council or significant international standing in cultural policy, scholarship, or the arts.

An ICTMD Ambassador would be expected to benefit the Council in one or more of the following ways:

  • Making the Council's aims and values better known to various academic and cultural circles worldwide,
  • Contributing to the Council’s economic sustainability by providing (or helping to facilitate) financial support,
  • Logistically and financially supporting the Council's gatherings and members in need,
  • Assisting in finding national and regional representatives for the World Network,
  • Providing new venues for the Council's activities,
  • Identifying and/or approaching societies, institutions, events, or projects for the Council to cooperate with.

An ICTMD Ambassador may be an ICTMD Honorary Member – the highest expression of gratitude for past contributions, as listed in the Statutes – but this is not a requirement. Otherwise, the status of an ICTMD Ambassador encourages the active involvement of a selected individual in benefiting the Council's present and future.

The status of an ICTMD Ambassador is expected to provide an endorsed individual with encouragement and authority to contribute to the Council based on trust, communication, and coordination with the President or another member of the Executive Board.

Procedure

Any Executive Board member may nominate a candidate at any time.

A nomination must be accompanied by a reference and support letter from the proposing Executive Board member.

This should allow the candidate, with the assistance of the Board member, if needed, to become familiar with the Council's structure, aims, and ethical principles.

The appointment process of an ICTMD Ambassador through the Executive Board involves deliberation, followed by a vote. A simple majority is considered sufficient for the candidate’s endorsement.

Once appointed by the Executive Board, an ICTMD Ambassador will be granted Life Membership in the Council.

In the unlikely event that an Ambassador acts contrary to the Council’s aims and ethical principles, the Executive Board should promptly discuss the circumstances and, if necessary, rescind the Ambassador’s mandate by a simple majority vote.

Appointments and withdrawals will be announced at the General Assembly and published in the Bulletin of the ICTMD.

The Ambassadors work individually but confer with each other regularly and at World Conferences to share their ideas, efforts, and achievements.
